Hope...to desire with expectation of obtainment

In the fall of 2004, three young men embarked on a journey. Their heart was simple, to travel the world in search of those who are oppressed, those who are suffering, those who are alone and without hope. While there is certainly pain everywhere in the world, there is an ultimate level of hopelessness that exists when one stands in the face of oppression and suffering, yet has no one to look to for help, no one to lean on, no one to pick you up. It is in those places, feeling trapped in a world of despair, that people cry out…only to find the sound of silence resonating in their ears. These men sought to seek out such hidden realities, to listen to the stories and then to return to the States and be a voice for those with no voice. 

As they went out, what they found was, at times, overwhelming. The stories gripped their hearts and only further fueled the fire within them, a fire that burned of a responsibility to do their part in the fight against injustice. In the midst of their search, they met local people who were gripped, likewise, by the suffering and hopelessness they saw in the world around them; local people who not only saw the need and were saddened, rather people who had already decided to do something about it. Whether through a meal, a hug or a listening ear, these local people were driven by the same desire to fight the injustice that they saw affecting the lives of people around them; injustice that is sucking the very life out of their communities.

When they returned to the States, they went to work. They tirelessly relayed their stories. They shared with whoever would listen. They went wherever they were welcomed. As they did so, their experiences and stories fueled the fire of an emerging movement, a movement with the simple goal of identifying and coming alongside people/organizations around the world who are already engaged in the fight against suffering and hopelessness in their local communities. People who not only had the desire to make the world around them a better place, but who were already taking active steps, with the resources at their disposal, to make that dream a reality. Local people who were actively loving and serving their community, working to bring hope to their neighborhood, town, city and country, willing to do whatever it takes to see the lives of people around them transformed.  A year and half later, this movement became known simply as…The HOPE Project.

Over the course of this journey, the people we have come in contact with are driven by a common desire to inject hope, through the vehicle of love, into the lives of the people around them. They continue to work endlessly to see their communities transformed from places of silent hopelessness to places where hope and love beat with a never-ending pulse, where hopelessness is replaced with the an endless amount of passion, vision and creativity. It is our desire to continually discover, come alongside and partner with such people/organizations, that we might work together in order to make those dreams a reality.
